Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI)
Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) of certain category as has been specified in the Brochure who migrated from India and acquired citizenship of a foreign country other than Pakistan and Bangladesh, are eligible for grant of OCI as long as their home countries allow dual citizenship in some form or the other under their local laws.
FRESH OCI APPLICATION (INDIAN ORIGIN CATEGORY)
A foreign national, who was eligible to become citizen of India on 26.01.1950 or was a citizen of India on or at any time after 26.01.1950 or belonged to a territory that became part of India after 15.08.1947 and his/her children and grandchildren, provided his/her country of citizenship allows dual citizenship in some form or other under the local laws, is eligible for registration as Overseas Citizen of India.

Login to http://ociservices.gov.in Applicants need to upload all the requisite documents and photo and signature.
- 2’*2’ white background photos – 2
- Proof of citizenship:
- Applicant passport copy and birth certificate (all Sri Lankan documents in Tamil or Sinhala needs English Translation) and has to be attested by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment & tourism Sri Lanka (MOFA). Passport should be valid for at least 6 months from the date of application and in case of foreign passport (country other than Sri Lanka) residence visa should be valid for 6 months at least.
- Cancelled/surrendered Indian Passport person (In case applicant has surrendered Indian passport in or after 2010, they need to submit surrender certificate as well.
- Proof of Address mentioned Application
Copy of Electricity bill or NIC card or Telephone bill or water bill in the name of own/spouse/parents/grandparents.
In case of rented accommodation, Lease/Rent agreement from tenants and No Objection letter from Tenant along with copy of electricity bill/NIC card/Telephone bill/Water Bill mentioning the address of application.
- Document to prove the linkage between the applicant and root person mentioned in the application like copy of Birth certificate/Certificate of Registration of

and copy of citizenship certificate.
(All Sri Lankan documents in Tamil or Sinhala needs English Translation) and has to be attested by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment & tourism Sri Lanka (MOFA).
- Police Clerance Certificate (Except minors need to submit Police clearance Certificate, and further it needs to be attested by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment & tourism Sri Lanka (MOFA).
Copy of Indian passport of root person
Or
Digital copy of Inherited Land/Immoveable property documents in India
Or
Copy of Inherited Land documents attested by competent Indian authorities
Or
Copy of Original pattabook/ Immoveable property documents.
Or
Certificate of Registration issued by Sri Lankan Government

The above documents will be accepted with Citizenship Confirmation obtained from Department for the Registration of persons of Indian Origin (Premises of Department of Immigration and Emigration), Battaramulla and it needs to be attested by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment & tourism Sri Lanka (MOFA).

Note:
Duly filled application along with photocopies of supporting documents need to submitted in the High Commission of India any working day while after booking appointment from the official website. (www.hcicolombocpv.in )
- Persons registered as OCI Beneficiaries have not been given any voting rights, election to Lok Sabha/Rajya Sabha/Legislative Assembly/Council, holding Constitutional posts such as President, Vice President, Judge of Supreme Court/High Court.
- Any further benefits to OCIs will be notified by the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs (MOIA) under section 7B (1) of the Citizenship Act, 1955.
- If it is found that the registration as an OCI Beneficiaries was obtained by means of fraud, false representation or concealment of any material fact or the registered OCI has shown disaffection towards the Constitution of India or comes under any of the provisions of section 7D of the Citizenship Act, the registration of such person will not only be cancelled forthwith but he/she will also be blacklisted from visiting India.
